Special events have become a key factor of the EICMA show: as it happened in the past with MotoLive and Green Planet, the 68th edition was the occasion to launch a new initiative, called “Tourism on Two Wheels”. A dedicated area in Pavillon 6 gives a chance for touristic and local authorities and Tour Operators to offer advice, information and opportunities for the bike and motorbike Touring lovers.
The Alps region offer enchanting panoramas, fascinating and demanding paths with its variegated nature: “The province of Cuneo, with its valleys and flats, has the advantage of being distant from the big city traffic, that made it possible to preserve the environment where 30 itineraries were created to suit offroad and mountain bike fans”, stated Massimo Longhi, a representative of the Piedmontese province. The Province of Turin offers plenty of opportunities for cyclotouring: in the Po river area to the Colle delle Finestre, to the mountains of the Susa and Soana valleys.
“Lombardy presents its 56 bike itineraries, to match any amateur’s demands: 2000 km of road and offroad paths, dedicated to traditional bikes and mountain bikes: in particolar, the Navigli, the Mantuan lands and the Garda lake provide plenty of opportunities,” said Paolo Castagni, a Lombardy’s responsible for the Commerce-Touring-Services sector.
Alto Adige-Sudtirol is motorbikers’ favorite site, with its incomparable match of charm, wellness and relax. In the north-eastern part of Italy, Friuli-Venezia-Giulia also offers 9 motorcycling itineraries.
Liguria presents a new bicycle path, “a really beautiful one, running along the whole coast in the Province of Imperia,” Elisabetta Rimicci underlined.
Going southwards, the Province of Pesaro-Urbino, in Marche region, provides 11 bike paths, while in Calabria at the tip of the “Italian Booth”, the courses move through the mountains and by the sea, passing by the important historical sites of the area.
In the expo area there’s also Tour Operator Fabio Fasola, with his unique proposals for those who are looking for a really particular experience on two wheels: think about the Desert Logic, in Morocco, a rally-like race, whom anyone – even non professional bikers – can take part to.
