02/11/2010 - Berlusconi opens 2010 EICMA: "China is our target"

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was in the spotlight during the opening day of the 68th EICMA International Bike and Motorbike Show, as he made an unexpected appeaence for the inauguration press conference that took place in a crowded Sala Martini in Milan’s fair congress center. “I am very happy to personally celebrate the opening of 2010 EICMA, and to have the chance to give credit to director Costantino Ruggiero, who has been the “soul” of this event for 20 years. – President Berlusconi stated – The attitude for innovation and investment by the Italian industry, despite a difficult economic period caused by the crisis, deserves admiration.” “We have to look at China, as thery are generating new man-power in terms of 23 millions people a year. - continued Italian prime minister – We have to target China as a core market for our exportations.”

Confindustria ANCMA and EICMA President Corrado Capelli was in charge of the welcome greetings: “I am proud of motor companies, for the way they are running on the path of innovation, favoring the development of design and environmental care, despite the economic crisis does not look like slowing down. The new products by the over 1100 brands in the most important Moto show in the world stand out to testify it.” Fiera Milano’s President Michele Perini shared Capelli’s words, expressing his faith for an upcoming resurging of Italian economy.

Lombardy’s mobility assessor Raffaele Cattaneo focused on the perspective for Italian business to rise up the Worldwide economic ladder: “The most important motor companies in Italy are willing to receive clearer responses about the new incentives programme.” 

The response immediately arrived from Economic Development Minister Paolo Romani’s words: despite the crisis involving several companies in the business, a new incentives plan will start in the next few days, as a demonstration of the governmental attitude to tackle the most pressing demands.”

The world of cycles and motorcycles was evenly represented, with the attendance of four World champions like Gianni Bugno, Vittorio Adorni, Max Biaggi and Jorge Lorenzo.
